As NeoOffice/J is the main openoffice branch used by mac users is
there any possibility that it will become integrated with the OO.org
Mac OS X porting effort, or is there always going to be an X11 version
and an aqua version?

I always forsee there being an X11 version and an Aqua version (hopefully) for the reasons I tried to outline in my posting which, for better or for worse, seems to have gotten quoted out of context. Realistically, to get a version of OOo that is "friendly" to Mac users may require scrapping the interface. Not only does that add complexity for users by creating an unfamiliar product, but it also redoubles the porting burden with the requirement to maintain not only the port but an entirely separate interface as well. This is an unrealistic goal, especially in the context of a 2.0 release timeframe.

Regardless of user opinion and given the nature of the effort thus far, it's incredibly difficult just to keep up with the sheer volume of the task of maintenance on a volunteer staffed X11 port. There's nowhere near the infrastructure or support necessary to duplicate the entire user interface on top of it as well. Even with all the dedicated work of Eric B. and Eric H. things are still difficult with 1.1.3 and 2.0 X11, much less the magnitudes of complexity an Aqua interface would add to an already understaffed effort.

Just my 2 cents.
