If you're using Apple's X11 make sure that you have set colours to "million" in the X11 preferences. This is kind of a known bug in Apple's X11 in relation with OOo. I hope this to be fixed in Tiger's X11 since other apps seem to have the same problem and it was often reported on Apple's X11 mailinglist. Could you please test if Base Module works for you? Or if you can use all Autopilots? Before m92 all java based stuff crashed. Maho included a java patch but this patch currently is in review because it's only experimental and we have a more clean and better patch to come.
