I met some Apple X11 engineers yesterday at the Apple Campus Beer
Bash to whom I showed the problem. They said since it works correctly
in xterm, the problem may be how OOo (and gnome) handles the key
events. Which is what I thought anyway since people had reported this
issue for XFree86 on MacOSX before.
Anyway, with beer inside and the second on the way, my fingers did
not hit the keys with the usual accuracy and I just stumbled across
that you can get to some of the expected symbols hitting Option+Ctrl
+key. It apparently does not work for everything (e.g. Euro sign on
German keyboard), but this is better than nothing.
