the past we also changed the usage of /usr/bin/osascript during runtime (to
get the 10.3.9 numbers).

X very well): can't we use osascript at runtime instead of osacompile
during compile time?

Well, the point is that osacompile is needed to generate the whole launcher application, osascript is only meant to execute an applescript from the commandline. At runtime I cannot call osacompile because there is nothing that would trigger it. (Because we haven't built it...) We could try to check in the complete launcher application, but this has to be maintained with every milestone, otherwise you end up getting old stuff if something has changed, which is quite likely at the moment.

Perhaps someone can come up with a good idea ?
