Re: Shaun McDonald,
I don't know where it is further documented, but there
is definitely a change in line spacing, tab stops,
object positioning and text wrap around objects,
between OOo 1.1 (which NeoOffice is based) and OOo
2.0. To use the formatting from OOo 1.1 in OOo 2.0 go
to the 'Tools' menu > 'Options...' . Then select
'OpenOffice.org Writer' and then 'Compatibility'.
Enable or disable the various options that should help
your problem. Every user who is working with the
document will have to change these settings.

Thanks Shaun.

It becomes quite evident if (this occurs in reverse also, from NeoO documents to Mac OOo 2.0r3) On Mac OOo 2.0r3 create a three-page+ Courier 12 document 57 lines deep with a header with a blank line underneath, a top margin of .3 inches and bottom margin of .8 inches. All pages should maintain a 57 line deep format (Movie Magic Screenwriter's gold standard format -- they've a great free demo!). Save as .sxw and load into NeoO 1.1. Note now the document is 56 lines deep and only way to maintain 57 lines is to alter margins to .24 in. top and .72 in bottom. Such inconsistency within a product family shouldn't stand, especially in an age of strict and picky print rendering demands. I've non-techie friends who reluctantly shelled out $300 for MMS just because a OOo written screenplay can't achieve this format without severe techie tinkering. And more sobering, Word can do it without tinkering. Even Mariner Write, of all things! The identical paper printout from MMS and Mariner Write 3.7.0 when held tight together against a strong light exactly match font pixel-per font pixel, space per space, margin per margin.

I badly want OOo to be all it can be, so I hope no one takes any of this gadfly nitpicking as criticism.

Please keep up the good work! I DO cheerfully feed your kitty now and then!

James Greenidge
