Hi Harold,

System Windows ME. Error screen resulted from attempting to import a file onto the second page of a two page document. My comment (halh) on Issue 39622 relates to the apppearance of the error screen, however I cannot get out of the error screen to send the crash report. The following action was taken to attempt to recover after deleting and reinstalling the program.
I now cannot start Writer. I get the error screen (attached) even after the following:
1. Close the screen with Close Program dialog (ctrl-alt-delete). The Close box (X) on the screen does not work.
2. Delete OpenOffice via the Control Panel (Add/Delete)
3. Reinstall from downloaded, unzipped file without rebooting
4. Screen reappears on starting OpenOffice Writer
5. Reinstall from downloaded, unzipped file using Repair function
6. Reboot
7. Same screen appears
8. Remove OpenOffice via Control Panel, reboot, start OpenOffice Writer
9. Same screen reappears
10. Remove OpenOffice via Control Panel, reboot, use Registry First Aid to remove all path links to files opened within Writer
11. Reinstall Open Office from downloaded, unzipped file
12. Start OpenOffice Writer, same screen appears
Note: the same unzipped file was used for all installations.
I cannot sucessfully open the Writer now.
I am not sure offhand where your user profile is on Windows ME (if you know how to operate a command prompt, try >echo %USERPROFILE%).
In the directory %USERPROFILE%\ApplicationData\OpenOffice.org1.9.79\user\registry\data\org\openoffice\Office there is a file Recovery.xcu. Delete that file. That should fix your problem.
Reinstalling doesn't help, because this is stored in your personal application data, which isn't touched by the installer.
HTH, Joerg
