Hi David,
I was wondering what is the best way to keep multiple
instances fo OOo installed at one time? Most often,
the newer version overwrites (or otherwise
incapacitates) the older version?
In general, it should be no problem to install different *versions* of
OOo at the same time.
But at the moment, 1.1.5rc's and 1.9.x are not real different versions.
(As 1.1.5rc's are supposed to be version 1.1.5 and 1.9.x builds are
supposed to be version 2.0).
I have trying to locate the stable version of 1.1.5,
however, I can only find 1.1.5rc3. I presume this is
the same beast, however, I do have some slight anxiety
about making such a leap of faith.
1.1.5rc3 is a release candidate, what means it might have errors.
Actually (and unfortunately) it has at least one bug, that should be
fixed before OOo 1.1.5 would be officially released.
See http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=53334 for details.
One more point, I have a 56k dial-up connection.
Ususlly, I can download an OOo snapshot in less than
three hours. However, over the past week, or a bit
more, my Internet connection seems to have developed a
serious case of glacial-itis. OOo 2.0Beta2 took over
ten hours to download - when I could connect. And my
ISP seems to delight in tossing me off the Internet
whenever I attempt to download a significant file.
What he doesn't know is that my downloader supports
resumption of stopped. paused or briken downloads.
OOo beta2 was announcet *today* what means it has been delivered to the
mirror network at the weekend. Maybe your download manager picked some
files, that has not been completely delivered to the mirrors :-(
