As a side note, what happens if a poster keeps claiming that a bug is not
fixed but no QA people can manage to replicate it when following his
insructions? Do we just resolve as WORKSFORME anyway, or do we need to keep
digging for a while to see if we can find out what's going on? My guess
would be the right answer depends on how serious the alleged bug is... this
one looks pretty serious to me, if it really exists.
That can happen when the bug is dependent on environment and the history
programs installed of the PC. Such cases are hard to isolate,
particularly if for a user with a single machine unable to get other
observation points. To resolve this, the ideal situation would be for
users, qa and developers to start with identical systems, then either:
the qa and devs get to see the problem; or the user gets to see it
working, and can start isolating things in their environment. This
could be done...
+ for Linux by providing a Live CD with OOo pre-installed as an ISO download
+ for Windows by encouraging user to download trial versions of VMWare
or MS Virtual PC and document a clean install of the OS and OOo
