I have tried to open the attached file in OpenOffice, hoping to import its content as "preformatted text". To my surprise, it interpreted the HTML content and embedded the resulting web page (complete with input fields and button) inside the document!

Dave,

when you do File-Open there are three input boxes, look at the right- hand side in the third input box - there is a little button with a triangle) which indicates if you click that button a pick-list is revealed. (I know you probably already tried that one...)

If you scroll down in that list the choices seem few, but now look at the right hand side again - there is a scroll bar! By scrolling down further you may choose Text (*.txt) that will do exactly what you required, I tested with your example, it loads with style "Preformatted Text".

This is a relatively common report, there is something counter- intuitive about the behaviour of the scrolling in the pick-list.

btw, for this type of question you will generally get a faster response on [email protected] ...

best wishes
