Aha, I think the problem is not in the word 'stable' here.

Currently the text says 'a more recent stable version'. Like Cor says this can be read as 'a more recent and a more stable version'. But if we rephrase the original text to read 'the most recent stable version', the 'problem' is solved. So only change the words 'a more' to 'the most'.

This seems like no big deal, but if someone would just leave out the word 'stable' then the reader might be uncertain whether this 'more recent version' is production quality or a development snapshot.
