Hi James,

As both projects should be well aware, testtool on the Mac Intel platform is not functional since OpenOffice.org 2.0.4.

Indeed :-/

The problem is : Mac OS X port is not considered as a main port like Windows or Linux (while this is one of the most dynamic project !! ) , and when something is broken for us, we have to help ourselves..

Just an example : we regularly must fix buildfixes for a lot of new milestone, and we spend a lot of energy because of that.

The problem is : when we have to fix buildfixes, the native work slows down ....

I decided to track through builds provided by Maho Nakata from the branch of for 2.0.3, which was m169 to where the testtool stopped working. The first available build that I could locate was m174, and testtool did not work in this version. I obtained from Maho, m172 and m173. In m172, testtool was fully functional. In m173, it was not.

I have seen all your investigations on IRC with Shaun, and you did a great work, since a long time, and I really appreciate.

Thank you very much for your time James !!

I am now in the process of doing a code level compare to find out where the problem is and to effect a possible repair.

Ok, if you find something suspicious, let me know. And we'll help you (including me)

The major question is why the delay and now the sudden urgency to effect a repair?

Very good question. Like you I wonder why suddenly this urgency : this is well known there is a problem with testtool since some time.

From my side, I stopped to do contribue for Mac OS X QA since some times, just because I had not enough time, and I have a real life beside ...

Since the nightmare from rc1 ... to rc7 with 2.0.3 or 2.0.2 ( don't remember exactly), we have lost a lot of volunteers for QA tests on Mac OS X port.
Now we have less rc (uff) , but all volunteers for QA are gone :-/

I hope people will retain the lesson.

The version from OpenOffice.org 2.0.3 will become obsolete next month and thus this version will not be testable past that point, and thus no new OpenOffice.org 2.2 for the Mac Intel.

I don't think so. We can find a compromise, doing some manual tests waiting fo a fix.

Although this is a small segment of OpenOffice.org users, it is vital that we maintain the number of Mac users of OpenOffice.org as the Mac Intel platform is growing in the number of users.

I completely agree with you, and I'd suggest to create new tasks for Mac OS X QA. For example, I propose to create new tasks for buildfixes e.g. , but I have other ideas, and cloph too with bots and co.

But they are positive things: since 2.0.4/2.1 the number of QA'ed locales is growing for Mac OS X port :-)

Let's continue !

Also, without a viable testtool for the current version, this program may not be usable for the Aqua project.

Not so fast :-)

We test it from time to time, but Aqua version needs a lot of work first (complete everything missing is the first priority)

In fact, I already tested the QA testtool built with Aqua version (it will need special work). This is not yet working as expected, but when Aqua will progress, native testtool will too the same way.

At least the tool seems to work (the tools does use native menus too :-) ).

Further statuses will be made available, and I am asking for assistance in resolving this problem.

+ 1 for me

*Please HELP James to organize better Mac OS X QA*

Bonne fêtes à tous !

Eric Bachard
