Vito: I would also suggest looking at the issue that I filed about BASE testing.
It appears that the scripts were designed to be used with Sun's products and we do not support as many database types as they do. This leads to false error reports. I created a new databasetypes.inc file that will only test those databases supported by the Mac version of OpenOffice.org (and I suspect most Unix variants.) And yes, testtool with version 2.2 does work just fine here. I've been using it for a while. Also, Shaun McDonald opened an issue to record testtool results for 2.2 so we can compare the results from different languages and to show that this program does work on the Mac.
