It has been marked as won't fix because there is no intention to
change the current behaviour.

Yes, you paste the contents as is that way.

This is consistent with the fact that you cannot enter manual
linebreaks using the formula-bar, but only when editing the cell
directly.

Yes. Exactly.  You cannot enter it in the formula bar, only in the
direct editing.

Well, good that opinions can differ :-)

There are other issues already to allow insertion of newlines with
formulas or character codes.

But I'm not in product planning anyway, I cannot tell other people to
work on a fix or something. I think if you want to work on a patch
yourself/in your team, it would be best to mail either the
user-experience list and/or the spreadsheet list to get a more
detailed answer on whether the fix will be accepted and if not, why
not.

Wontfix in general only means that the person the issue is assigned to
will not do anything regarding that issue, but if there is a patch the
fix will not be rejected (there are exceptions however, so better
check with the corresponding sub-project before spending unnecessary
work)
