Because notepad replaces tabs with a pre-determined number (usually 5) of 
spaces. It (notepad) is a very simple text editor, and it's files are plain 
ASCII. It (notepad) does not store tabs as tabs.

If you tried doing the same using commas or semi-colons as delimiters, it will 
probably work properly (Not really sure, as I don't use Windows). Possible 
simply using a single space between text should work OK as well (the space 
becomes the delimiter).
