the current developer snapshot build is quite an important milestone for
OpenOffice.org 3.1 development because it contains a lot of bug fixes
and enhancements for the Arabic speaking and writing OpenOffice.org
community. That's the main reason why we uploaded a localized Arabic
full build besides the en-US build which usually comes with language
packs for a collection of languages.
Feedback for this Arabic build is more than welcome. If you find bugs
that hinder you to use this version within an Arabic locale then please
file an issue.
DEV300_m40 that Joost just uploaded already contains a lot of bugfixes
in the area of Arabic justified text and localized digits. Many more
changes are in the queue especially for issues with vocalized text. I
expect these further fixes to get into builds called "DEV300_m42" or
"OOO310_m2".
So please test the version that was just announced. If the problems you
find there involve vocalized text then please check again with the soon
to be announced versions before filing new issues. The newer builds
mentioned above should handle vocalized text much better as they contain
the important changes introduces by a "child workspace"
(http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/ChildWorkSpace) named
"kashidafix02".
Most of the work in the BiDi+CTL context was targeted for WIN and X11
platforms. Mac should work fine too with the new builds mentioned above,
but with the switch from the older OSX's ATSUI-API to the CoreText-API
in newer OSX versions still pending this platform wasn't in the focus of
the improvements for BiDi locales. Feedback is welcome though for
versions that contain "kashidafix02".
