I have been getting crashes in Calc (in fact, that's why I decided to
join this list).
Someone on IRC for Ubuntu said that if one removes OOo using the
package mechanism (I'm talking Debian world here, since it's Ubuntu),
and then goes to the directory where the code was (executables,
libraries, everything related to the app), and removes everything, and
then re-installs, the crashing will stop. I am now trying this (with
the development snapshot). In addition, I removed the .* files (or
directories) from my home directory that looked as though they had
anything to do with OOo. A further cleanup step I neglected to do,
but plan to do if the crashing happens to me again, is to reload the
version of OOo that came with my Ubuntu, then ask the package manager
(Synaptic) what files the packages constituting (production) OOo
install, then remove the packages again, then go to the directories
into which the packages had placed files, and remove any files that
appear to be related to OOo.
I know that the purpose of this list is to coordinate the
characterization of classes of repeatable fault, but my own primary
purpose is to be able to use a spreadsheet program that works on Linux
and Windows and that can read and write .xls files. If I can find a
workaround that will stop the crashes, I will use it.
