I use a shell script, "e", to edit files using ooo-dev. The "e" script and its companion "launch" script appear in http://jackwaugh.com/src/bin/ (ignore the ".bash.txt" filename suffixes). The "launch" script assumes there is an environment variable "t" pointing to a directory for temporary files. It also assumes a directory for log files, but you can easily remove that assumption if you make a version for yourself.
