Binary compatibility and 1.1.2

A thread on d...@qpid reminds me that we still don't have a binary compatibility story. I'm not sure where customer expectations are set but right now there is an excellent chance that a simple "yum update" will cause qpid-based apps to explode. 

If this seems like something we want to do I can write up a Bugzilla.
