Add version specific testing to our standard suite

Currently our test runs are only of a particular version.
To ensure that adding new protocols do not break version negotiation we need to
add a test that runs as part of the normal cycle that cycles through the
available protocol versions and ensures that it can at least perform the
following:
connect
send
receive
disconnect.
