Yes, the test was introduced in conjunction with that
addition. However
it only passed where cyrus-sasl was in use. I have tightened
up the test and believe it should now pass in all cases.

Should have, but it seems the cmake build does not correctly set the
HAVE_SASL variable that enables sasl integration, even when the libs are
detected. I have committed a fix for that.
