Kato Kaito created QPID-8790:
--------------------------------
Summary: [Broker-J] Prevent false heartbeat timeouts when write
backpressure fills the output buffer
Key: QPID-8790
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/QPID-8790
Project: Qpid
Issue Type: Bug
Components: Broker-J
Affects Versions: qpid-java-broker-10.1.1
Reporter: Kato Kaito
Sustained write backpressure can cause Broker-J to close an active connection
with a heartbeat/read-idle timeout, even though the peer continues sending
heartbeats.
When the broker’s output buffer fills, it can stop reading incoming data until
writes make progress. Incoming heartbeats consequently remain unread while the
read-idle timer continues running. The broker can then interpret the absence of
processed input as a connection failure.
Heartbeat processing during blocked writes was partially addressed in
QPID-8772, but the full-output-buffer case remains.
The fix should make heartbeat/read-idle handling account for reads suspended by
write backpressure, while preserving bounded buffering and avoiding continuous
rescheduling.
