It's too early on for proton to have its own mailing lists--instead, people should be asking questions about it on the Qpid Users' List, or following development on the dev list. This way regular Qpid-ers can find out more about Proton, and Proton'ers can find out more about Qpid as a whole. The two audiences cross-pollinate much better that way, with everybody getting smarter. CXF does this with its own DOSGi and Fediz subprojects--it's all on the CXF user's list (dev@ on the dev list) and we're one big happy family. Whoever is too lazy to subscribe to qpid-dev that laziness problem will still manifest itself on a potential proton-dev ML. If you have too many lists, you also start attacting spam--people selling handbags, New York Knicks tickets and Viagra and all that stuff--it ends up looking awful on Nabble. Furthermore, it looks good for Qpid when its user's list is nice and busy (same with the dev list) because people frequently look at mailing list traffic to get a judge on which messaging option they should base their projects on[1]. Pouring the proton users into the standard qpid mailing lists helps Qpid marketing IMO much more than an extra mailing list with just a few dozen emails each month. Hi Everyone, There's been a lot of good discussion about proton on the dev list, however, despite my encouragement, many interested parties do not follow the qpid dev list and instead email me directly as a matter of convenience. It's my belief that a proton mailing list would help encourage these parties to participate more openly and foster better communication between all the various users of proton both inside and outside of qpid. To that end I'd like to propose creating "[email protected]".
