Steve Huston commented on QPID-5120:
------------------------------------

The current VS2008 files are not from automake days - they were put in place so
users would be able to use the examples without obtaining and figuring out
cmake, which was a goal at the time. It sounds as though there's some desire to
change that goal.

The examples work fine when installed (at least when the qpid/packaging/windows
installer installs them). If you wish to change this, it would be good to also
make any needed adjustments in the installer scripts in qpid/packaging/windows.

> The qpid/cpp/examples source directory has a Visual Studio 2008 solution and
> several project files. These files are installed on windows and produce
> generally useless and confused results. They are left over from the days of
> automake and should be deleted.
> In QPID-4372 a better way forward has been proposed and implemented. The
> examples cmake file defines the examples in a more maintainable format and
> will generate the desired solution and project files for multiple versions of
> Visual Studio.
