Robbie Gemmell resolved QPID-5723.

Resolution: Fixed
Resolving the JIRA for now. The changes made allowed the Java8 job to finish
compiling, and pass all the tests except 4 unit tests which are already being
separately investigated for sporadically failing even under Java7.
