Keith Wall created QPID-6980:
--------------------------------
Summary: Trigger producer flow control if the heap is approaching
a predefined limit thus preventing an OOM due to too many queue entries
Key: QPID-6980
URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/QPID-6980
Project: Qpid
Issue Type: Improvement
Components: Java Broker
Reporter: Keith Wall
In v6, message payload/message headers have moved to direct memory. However,
even with sufficient direct memory, overall queue length is still constrained
by heap. This is because the queue entry linked list (although lightweight)
still requires heap memory and our model means these objects cannot be
(currently) flushed to disk.
We should add a new trigger to producer flow control so that flow is stopped
before heap becomes exhausted. This will prevent a (heap) out of memory in the
event where space for message payload remains but space of queue entries does
not.
We would want the ability to impose limits at queue, virtualhost or broker
level.
