I'm not the right guy to comment on the details of your paper, but specifying the bytecode format is a big win IMO -- it opens up a lot of room for experimentation on the runtime. This is the flipside of multiple language support. Often it is the runtime characteristics that are of as much interest as the langauge (I'm looking at you, Erlang).
