My guess is that this is related to a transition from 32-bit branches to 64-bit branches in JIT-generated code, which happens onx x86_64 when enough code has been JITted to span an address range larger than 2^31 (and that's likely to happen late in a build when using 7 places). I haven't been able to track down the problem, though.
