Don Bosco Durai commented on RANGER-1300:
-----------------------------------------

This is a very desired feature, but since S3 doesn't allow external plugins, it
would be a challenge to integrate. There were few suggestions floated around,
like using a proxy server with Ranger Plugin embedded in it. But this would
require implementing the S3 protocol at the proxy level. Another option is to
just manage the permissions at S3 level and let S3 do the enforcing and
auditing.

Are you or anyone from your company willing to contribute? We can do a quick
PoC and see whether it is viable.

Thanks

> As more and more people are deploying hadoop into AWS and as S3 is used in
> lots of application. It'd be nice to have S3 support built into Ranger.
> It's not a trivial task. Right now Ranger Storage support (only hdfs) runs
> directly in the Namenode
