Basapuram Kumar commented on RANGER-5118: ----------------------------------------- As shown in the screenshot, the Ranger service initially runs in the UTC timezone, with logging also set to UTC, while the local server operates in the IST timezone !image-2025-01-27-21-06-16-576.png! With the proposed changes, the server timezone and Ranger service logging are now aligned to the same timezone. Please let me know if there is a better way to address this. Thank you > Set default server timezone for ranger service logging > ------------------------------------------------------ > > Key: RANGER-5118 > URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/RANGER-5118 > Project: Ranger > Issue Type: Improvement > Components: admin, kms, tagsync, usersync > Affects Versions: 2.5.0 > Reporter: Basapuram Kumar > Assignee: Basapuram Kumar > Priority: Minor > Attachments: image-2025-01-27-21-06-16-576.png > > Time Spent: 10m > Remaining Estimate: 0h > > We observed that in Ranger, the server machine operates in one timezone > (other than UTC), but all logs—such as admin, KMS, and audit logs—are > recorded in UTC. > In contrast, components like Hadoop, Hive, and other ecosystem services > follow the server's timezone. To maintain uniformity across the system, we > propose aligning Ranger's logging behavior with the server's timezone as well. > > Will add the more analysis in comments for logging. > -- This message was sent by Atlassian Jira (v8.20.10#820010)
