Alok Lal commented on RANGER-381:
---------------------------------
-1
[Due to backward
compatibility|http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/11477/what-are-the-allowed-group-names-for-groupadd]
with old convention of scripts using $user.$group to pass user information
around use of . in user and/or group names is frowned upon. Is there a
compelling reason to let . be on a group name?

> When creating group with dot in name (E.g. "hanish.bansal") from Ranger admin
> UI, it gives error message "Please enter valid name".
> Since linux group naming convention allow dot (.) character, so same should
> be allowed from Ranger admin UI.
