My understanding is that the suggestion here is to fork a branch before the
first incompatible commit (e.g. 07543a44c00e680cec24c1f18d9aa625b09f6e5e).

However, as in Ozone we have to upgrade to  1.1.0-c5eafb9-SNAPSHOT (
https://github.com/apache/ozone/pull/1728). Will it make sense to cut the
1.0 branch from at least that version?
