in "Getting the Code and Building River" you mention a optional step:

Optionally, you can also;
$  cd ../src-extra-examples
$  ant # This will build the lib/extra-examples.jar


My question:
- why should i take this optional step?
- if the reason is not all that clear to a newbie, could we include it as a mandatory step? - where is this optional step attached to? (by using .. i'm stepping out of the checked-out material.
