Hi Amit: River runs with no problems under JDK8, the only problem is that the source distribution for 2.2.2 requires JDK7 to compile.
I would suggest for now that you use the River 2.2.2 artifacts that are released into Maven Central. For examples of how to do this, please download and build river-examples-1.0 (http://river.apache.org/downloads.html). You can use that project under JDK8.
