In my opinion, getting familiar with the project you can first try to run the example according to the introduction of the start document; then, if time permits, try to build the project from source code; after familiarizing yourself with the source code, try to find out where you can improve, and if you have the energy and willingness, you can ask the developer of the project suggestions or issues for improvement, even help him fix and implement, participate in the development of the project.
