If we want to keep decorators around then we are going to have to provide better support for them, meaning a way to enable/disable decorating of templates via the UI as well as the ability to specify templates that should be decorated in theme descriptors. Up until now the decorators have largely been an under the hood feature (a.k.a a hack) that wasn't really publicized much and we've never offered users any real control over the decorating process. So deprecating it should be quite safe.
