SHA256 digest support?

I'm trying to use SHA256 as a digest algorithm in the XML signature 
implementation. But i'm getting an error saying that "The algorithm URI 
"ALGO_ID_DIGEST_SHA256" could not be mapped to a JCE algorithm". Help
