so i think the problem relates to Calc in some way. how do i investigate this further? i'm thinking of rebuilding office from source so that i can debug, are there less drastic things i should try first?
My next guess would be some library version incompatibilities, see http://udk.openoffice.org/common/man/draft/gccincompatibility.html. We use gcc 3.2.2 for OOo 1.1, 3.4.1 for the upcoming 2.0, and in both cases I can use your example lines without problems.
