For our own format, that number of cells seems to explain most of your 1:40 loading time (comparing times from different processors is always a bit uncertain). But there are some ideas on how to improve the situation, and it will be one of the first things to be done after the 2.0 release.
Importing an XLS file with 1.5 million simple cells is actually faster, so if that takes the same time in your case, it's probably because of some specific content in your file.
