I have not been following the Excel 2007/Excel 12 stuff very much as I have been more interested in OOo's Calc. Of course one of the things I have long wanted out of Calc or Excel is more Rows, Better conditional Formatting, Charting, along with increasing some of the other limits that have been around since Excel 97. I kept hoping that Calc would increase some of these and just have a compatibility mode option for people with Excel.
Well now I read that Excel has increased most of it's major limits that I have been after. I think this is something that may need to be reevaluated and pushed for in Calc. I know that MS Office is just under a year out but anything that can be done to beat others to the punch or to at least match this requested feature i think is important. I know that OOo does not have to have every feature MS Office has but some of these basic limit increases have been requested by all spread sheet users. here are a few links to the limit changes that have come though http://blogs.msdn.com/excel/archive/2005/09/26/474258.aspx http://blogs.msdn.com/excel/archive/2005/09/28/475041.aspx http://blogs.msdn.com/excel/archive/2005/10/04/477226.aspx At the same time Excel will be doing several things to improve over all calculation speed (Excel was already much faster for me then Calc). http://blogs.msdn.com/excel/archive/2005/11/03/488822.aspx I am sure there are developers and others that have Beta of the new MS Office/Excel that could delve into even more detail Can the OOo developers shine some light on what we may be seeing if anything in these areas? Besides cost and the concepts of open source it is hard to convince people of the value of OpenOffice, so having as much the same if not more features can be important. thanks for your thoughts Alan --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
