Hi,
I was thinking about the Auto Filter functionality and, although the
proposals for the Google SoC seem very beneficial, I believe there is a
more powerful way to expand the searching/ filtering capabilities of Calc.
As discussed in issue 66588
(http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=66588), a better
approach to complex searches would use SQL statements inside Calc.
ADVANTAGES
============
- SQL is a standard
- this would allow for powerful automation/ scripting
- more complex filtering than the AutoFilter
As OOo Database has (probably) an SQL engine implemented and there is
already an SQL-Query Builder, this code could be probably reused and
needs only to be accessed within Calc.
IF this feature seems interesting enough, as I personally do, I would
suggest to add it as a new entry to the "Additional AutoFilter
Functionality" section on the Google SoC wiki.
Sincerely,
Leonard
