2.) Linking directly through writing a reference to the particular

- this works, but is more cumbersome
How does the reference work, exactly? I'm rather confused by the
instructions you gave here. Let's assume I have spreadsheet1.ods and
spreadsheet2.ods. I want to put a cell in spreadsheet2.ods, namely cell A1
in sheet sheet1.
You have 2 options:
a.) either use (DDE?)-links, or
b.) use direct references
for b.) write in the cell in spreadsheet2.ods the following formula:
= !!! exactly, just one '=' !!!
do NOT write anything after the '=', BUT switch to the first spreadsheet
and click on the cell you want to enter. Now press 'ENTER', and voila,
you have a reference to an external sheet
[it will look something like:
"='file:///C:/path/spreadsheet1.ods'#$sheet1.A1" ]
This way you have linked to that particular cell (be aware that this
method does NOT work with named ranges).
a.) The first method should be more elegant, BUT does NOT work with
formulas.
[see Calc-Menu: Insert -> Link to external data => dialog: ...]
Hope this helps.
