Well, IIRC, it considers the zip file as a file system itself, so you can poll or write *inside* an archive file instead of reading / writing a full archive, which could be achieved using a file marshaler. We could consider removing / deprecating it if we have a VFS component and if we integrate https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/VFS-106 for example.
