On slow machines (overloaded build servers mainly) the builds fail quite
frequently because some unit tests have very short sleep() pauses so that
threaded tests can finish. There are a few places where we should increase
these sleep periods to allow slower machines to catch up and finish the build
without failing.
I think we should leave this issue open for a little while and try to clean up
these tests and log them against this issue.
