Have you tried downloading a snapshot of servicemix-mail and testing
your scenario ?
You can find one at the following location:
http://people.apache.org/repo/m2-snapshot-repository/org/apache/servicemix/servicemix-mail/4.0-SNAPSHOT/servicemix-mail-4.0-20080827.191624-67-installer.zip
You may need to use a snapshot of servicemix-shared too and replace
your released version with the following one:
http://people.apache.org/repo/m2-snapshot-repository/org/apache/servicemix/servicemix-shared/4.0-SNAPSHOT/servicemix-shared-4.0-20080827.191624-72-installer.zip
You should not have to change the other JBI components.
