Eric,

Yeah, I like how the major simplification of the first page makes it
looks a lot more appealing. Nice work on this initial proposal!

Some things I would change:
- only mention the latest 4.3.0 release on the home page in the
download box -- I'd also try and see if we can come up with a little
javascript that offers the correct download link for the current
platform, so people can get their hands on the software as easily as
possible (similar to what e.g.
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/firefox.html does)
- when the new logo is done, we might have to tinker a bit with the
color scheme or add some drop shadow/rounded corners/some other eye
candy/...
- I would move the news section down, to the same level of the twitter
feed but on the left -- afterwards we could add an events or JIRA feed
in the middle as well
- with the news section moved down, we can probably add some extra
spacing in the summary description, making things a bit more readable
-- I suspect we might want to rewrite that description a bit when we
start gearing up for our next releases (considering what we discussed
in the 'future' thread)
- how about giving the drop-down menu's a slightly different color/hue
to make them stand out a bit more from the main navigation menu?
Also, the menu items in those drop-downs would look better if there
was a bit more space between them (I think)

Also, I really like the twiiter feed on the bottom of the page, but we
might want to keep an eye on this thread on the incubator list
(http://old.nabble.com/Twitter-widget-on-Apache-project-website.-ts30053485.html)
because there appear to be a few 'issues' with using the default
widgets on apache.org websites. We can always make up our own
equivalent (most JavaScript toolkits have some kind of support for RSS
anyway) or look at Wookie for this.

Thanks for all your hard work on this,

Gert Vanthienen
