In many ways the JBI NormalizedMessage is a fairly similar concept to the DataObject in openadaptor - it'd be interesting to look at the openadaptor components and investigating how easy it'd be to migrate to JBI. What do you suggest as a next step? We should chat to the openadaptor guys about their new architecture to see if JBI could play a part. In the meantime I was thinking it'd be a good idea to create an openadaptor component in ServiceMix that could go in/out of JBI via openadaptor and vice versa then openadaptor and JBI can work well together.
