Shiro 1.2.5 Invalid Encoding UTF8?

Using Shiro 1.2.5 via a cradle-based project continually forces the following 
message:

[Fatal Error] shiro-root-1.2.5.pom:1:38: Invalid encoding name "UTF8”.

This is with Gradle 2.14, JDK 8. 

What seems to be the problem?
