Thanks Suresh. I have been able to send a test email using your
instruction. I will wait a little bit to see if the announce passes on
[email protected], and if not I will send it again (the failure notice
that I got said that my email was rejected rather than moderated).

apache.org as long as the email you are using is registered in id.apache.org as
your designated forwarding address.
Also, it is very trivial to send email from @apache.org. You can use the SMTP
server on people.apache.org (port 465). For instance you can configure
additional smtp in your gmail and when you are sending, you can choose to send
as apache.org email.
