Create a JDK8 branch?

Hello all

Apache infra just installed a JDK8 previous on one of the Jenkins node. 
I'm very tempted to start a JDK8 branch for development. The most 
immediate objective is to leverage the new time API. Secondary objective 
is to explore lambdas. Is there any objection to the creation of a JDK8 
branch in the next few weeks? This would have no impact on the existing 
JDK6 branch and trunk: backports will continue as today, and the SIS 
releases would still target the JDK6 platforms.
