Hi all, I thought I would re-introduce myself as I hope to get more involved in the SIS project. I've been mostly a bystander since the project started. I've been re-thinking much of my life at Apache and paring it down to a more manageable set of things. I decided to stick with SIS as it's one of the things I'm really interested in regardless of where my day job takes me.
I've been interested in this project from the very beginning for many reasons. I've always loved maps, in general, and GIS technology. I've always wanted to understand more about the GIS world and I see this as a way to gain that knowledge. I can see a lot of potential for applications of SIS. Here are some of my own areas of interest where I think SIS and related technologies could be very beneficial: * I'm very involved in city planning, particularly with efforts to improve alternative transportation options, such as bicycling. I could see SIS being very useful to provide location-based analytical data such as barriers, and places where cycling infrastructure could be very beneficial. * I'm very fascinated with the weather and like to follow severe weather as it occurs. I could see SIS being useful to track the accuracy of weather forecast models as well as to help in ongoing short-term forecasting and historical analysis of weather trends. * As an outdoor enthusiast I love route finding and backcountry trekking. Anyway, there's not much reason to share that other than so all of you know a bit about where I'm coming from. I've been spending some time lately familiarizing myself with the code and I hope to start contributing soon in some fashion. Thanks, Greg
